Tasteful exuberance: Behold the bold and boisterous debut of izzy+ flavors, a comprehensive new materials and colors program

CHICAGO – June 2012 – The palette is eye-popping.  The colors are bold and bright.  The materials are sophisticated and sensuous.  More than two years in the making, a thoughtfully selected new program of finishes, fabrics, and hues has arrived just in time for Neocon 2012.

It’s called izzy+ flavors, and the branded collection of colors, materials and finishes will provide a seamlessly coordinated and vibrant look for all the products in the izzy+ family of brands -- izzy, HÅG, Harter, Fixtures Furniture and ABCO 2.0.

“This is the first time in the 11-year history of the company that we have shown our position and point of view on colors and materials,” says Allison Roon, an interior designer and izzy+ consultant who led the izzy+ flavors project with Kerry Rowe, a color and material consultant. “We had an eye on fashion design, but we also kept sustainability and a human-centered approach at the forefront.  We ended up with a total makeover and a colors and materials program with pizzazz and personality.”

The debut of izzy+ flavors will be celebrated at NeoCon 2012 with a interactive and magnetic wall display in the izzy+ showroom (11-100 in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart) that enables designers and customers to create their own whimsical arrangements of swatches of materials and color.

“With this initiative, we’ve kept a healthy tension between things that are timeless and trendy,” notes Chuck Saylor, CEO and founder of izzy+.  “It’s consistent with our izzy+ design philosophy, with lots of layering and minimal patterning so that the form language of the product is allowed to speak.  More importantly, this represents the culmination of our consolidation efforts on the product brands, with a common materials and color palette so all the brands can be blended beautifully into a single project, if required.”

The new izzy+ flavors approach, Saylor adds, is “about an experience.  We know that flavors permeate our lives far beyond our sense of taste.  It’s the inspiration that comes from sharing our ideas and our lives with others. That inspiration is what has become the platform for our program.  Colors and finishes and materials become a platform for innovation and product differentiation.”

The curated collection of materials and colors, according to Roon and Rowe, carefully support the izzy+ perspective on the next generation of working and learning environments.

“We’ve thought through and chosen materials that spark collaborative experiences -- like marker-board laminates and backpainted glass that you can write on,” says Roon.  “And we’ve selected 15 new plastic colors to bring just the right personality that product specifiers need when they want to accent or punch up a space.  We’ve done a lot of color trends research and made izzy+ flavors very specifier friendly.”

Roon believes there is a powerful appetite in the marketplace for izzy+ flavors:  “In an age when product design is becoming more and more modern, color and materials can make a strong statement of differentiation.  It’s more culturally relevant now than ever before.  And at a time when the economy is struggling, and companies have been paring back or going without, it’s an opportune moment to breath fresh air into spaces and embrace change.”

Following closely on the heels of the introduction of izzy+ flavors will be an unveiling this summer of comprehensive renovation of the company’s marketing communication approach, including new materials cards, binders, website revisions and video vignettes.
